Sarah Schmitz-Burns, MD

As a physician, I feel that my role is to listen, and partner with my patients, so they can make their best individual health care choices. I am committed to guiding women through every stage of life, but my special interests are in high risk pregnancies, infertility, minimally invasive surgery, managing contraception, prevention and treatment of cervical dysplasia, and adolescent health.

I completed residency training at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX where nearly all of the 16,000 mothers served annually are Spanish speaking. I am proficient in medical Spanish, and have put it to use on several medical mission trips to countries in Central and South America.

I grew up in New Ulm, Minnesota, but now live in St. Paul with my husband, Scott. We have a son, Caden born in April of 2007, and celebrated the birth of our twins, Eva and Liam in April of 2010. The joys and challenges of balancing my personal and professional life, and my own experience with a high risk pregnancy, have helped me relate more closely to my patients.

In my spare time I enjoy running. These days that usually means keeping up with our kids, but I have completed several marathons. I also enjoy cross-country skiing, reading, cooking, spending time at our family cabin in Northern Wisconsin, and canoe trips to the Boundary Waters.
