Schedule for Prenatal Care Visits
Congratulations! Now that you are pregnant we expect that you will have many questions and concerns. Below is a general outline of your prenatal care visits. You are welcome to schedule appointments or ultrasounds at any of our three office locations for your convenience.
|5-9 weeks:||Initial visit with a nurse practitioner. Complete history and physical exam including pelvic exam and pap smear. Information regarding optional prenatal testing, course of pregnancy, and hospital choice. Blood tests usually include blood type (including Rh type), rubella titer, hepatitis test, syphillis test, HIV test, CBC, and urine culture. Weight, blood pressure, urine testing, and fetal heart tones done every visit after the first.|
|10-12 weeks:||Prenatal appointment with provider. First trimester screening done around
this time if patient chooses (must have separate ultrasound appointment with our
ultrasonographer scheduled in addition to any prenatal visit)
|16 weeks:||Prenatal appointment with provider. Quad screening done around this time if
|20 weeks:||Prenatal appointment with provider. Screening ultrasound done in our office
around this time (must have ultrasound appointment with our ultrasonographer
scheduled in addition to any prenatal visit)
|24 weeks:||Prenatal appointment with provider.|
|27-28 weeks:||Prenatal appointment with provider. One hour glucose testing and cbc.
Rhogam if you are Rh negative.
|30 to 36 weeks:||Prenatal appointment with provider every 2-3 weeks. At 36 week
appointment, vaginal Group B Streptococcus culture collected and weekly
cervical exams are started.
|37 weeks to delivery:||Prenatal appointments weekly.|
Topics to be discussed during visits: signs of preterm or term labor, breastfeeding, signing up for prenatal classes, finding a pediatrician, fetal movement counting, pain medication options in labor, and many more.
